The Star Academy is an affiliate of the Centre for Autism and Related Disorders (C.A.R.D.) based in the USA. C.A.R.D are experts and world leaders in autism treatment ( At the Star Academy we provide education programmes based on the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) to children who present with:

*Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD);
*Pervasive Development Disorder (PDD or PDD NOS);
*Language delay;
*Challenging behaviours;
*Developmental delay in the areas of communication, cognition or social relatedness;
*ADHD; or
*Any other related disorder to Autism.

ABA is research based and is a statistically proven intervention for children with autism that has proven to be successful. The Surgeon General in USA has declared ABA , a medical necessity for children with autism. Every child attending the Star Academy is an individual and will receive their own tailor made one-on-one education programme based on the principles of ABA. Recognising that autism is a spectrum disorder, each child’s programme is designed to address the delays and/or challenges of that specific child. Our focus includes addressing deficits in the areas of language and communication, social relatedness, and school readiness. Challenging behaviours are addressed by implementing a behaviour intervention plan as part of each child’s Star Academy programne. Every child attending our Academy is allocated a Supervisor and a team of trained ABA Instructors who are assigned to each child.

Services are provided at various locations including at the Academy, at home, in the community, at mainstream school or remedial school or elsewhere depending on the specific needs of the child. Some children attend regular or remedial school in the morning and attend an Academy or have home based sessions in the afternoon. Some children attend mainstream school with a trained facilitator provided by the Academy and some children attend the Academy full time.

ABA Services are provided to children Monday to Saturday and children attending the Academy vary in age ranging from 20 months to 15 years old. Depending on the specific requirements of each child, recommendations of the child’s Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist or PROMPT trained speech therapist are incorporated into the programme. PROMPT is exclusively provided to each child who attends the Star Academy by our PROMPT trained therapist who visits South Africa regularly from New York. – For more information see PROMPT.

The first step is to set up an appointment to visit the Academy closest to where you live. The second step is to complete our intake paperwork. Once we have received your completed intake paperwork we will enter your information onto our waiting list. If you do not live near any of our Academies, we may still be able to assist you with ABA services and will put you in touch with our workshop services department. Children receiving workshop services will be loaded onto the C.A.R.D skills programme and the Star Academy will assist you in recruiting and training a team of ABA Instructors to implement your child’s programme in your area. On-going supervision is provided to children who receive workshop services. To make an appointment please email

The Star Academy is based in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban. Our workshop services department services children around South Africa and Africa including Zimbabwe and Ghana.
