Having au paired in the UK for 3 little ones, there are a few things that are very important to me and before placing an au pair the following topics are addressed:
Safety in and around the house
The importance of good nutrition
How to deal with a sick child
Different ways that children experience love
Playtime: Balance between free play and structured activities.
Encouraging physical activity and limiting television time
Depending on the family’s needs and the Au Pair’s experience and circumstances, she can provide
Part-time /full-time; temporary/permanent childcare for children of all ages
An evening baby-sitting option
Transport for children to and from school, extra-mural activities and other outings
Nutritious meals according to parents’ requirements
Structured stimulating activities for the children
Assisting with and supervising homework and school projects
Assistance with grocery shopping, bathing of children, family meal preparation, etc. as agreed upon in employment contract.
Having an Au Pair offers peace of mind for parents to know that their children are cared for in the comfort, stability and security of their own home, when parents have other obligations to fulfill. Children’s routines (naptime, mealtime) can still be followed through to ensure a happy family at the end of each day.
