Our Reviews say it all

"Cape-Malay food unlike anything you’ll find elsewhere in Johannesburg. The wise-cracking owner, Grace Fourie, is always a treat, as is the retro-kitsch ambience. This is also the perfect place to take international visitors, with its wide selection of bredies (lamb, chicken and vegetarian), curries and desserts. Great for a vibey Friday or Saturday night. Highlights: waterblommetjiebredie, ouma onder ‘n kombers and outstanding milktart."

"Food - You are instantly transported to Cape Town’s District Six in this wonderful neighbourhood establishment in which owners Clarence Swartland Gorlei and Romano Gorlei pay tribute to Clarence’s childhood in District Six. It celebrates Cape Malay classics such as bobotie, green bean bredie, smoorsnoek and lamb curry. Recipes come from Clarence’s mother and ouma – and they are clearly made with love. The tomato bredie is scrumptious – you’ll clean the last drop of gravy from your plate with your finger! Leave space for the desserts: you have to try the melktert, hertzoggie tarts, pumpkin fritters and koeksisters.

Service - So friendly that the waiters even give you a hug. You can’t help but feel happy after leaving this buzzing establishment. To them, you’re in their home.

Ambience - It’s eclectic, gorgeously garish and uniquely South African. The music will also get you into the groove.

And...They should sell the pineapple pickle that accompanies the curry separately."
