The Lady Buxton Childcare Centre situated in Claremont is committed to providing a safe, secure and structured environment in which the child is nurtured and allowed to develop holistically in order to reach its full potential.
Our focus is the formative years - 3 months to 6 years - with literacy, numeracy and the achievement of life skills our fundamental goals.
Our programme promotes the education of the whole child through all its developmental phases thus preparing it for formal schooling and ultimate life-readiness.
OUR PHILOSOPHY CENTRES AROUND THE BASIC RIGHTS OF THE CHILD TO:
* Be happy.
* Be satisfied - (with healthy food & enough to drink).
* Be cared for by a warm, caring, responsible & motivated adult.
* Have opportunities to play in a safe environment.
* Have access to friends.
* Be provided with the stimulating materials needed for physical, intellectual & social development, to reach full potential.
Lady Buxton is one of the most established Educare and Pre-Primary Centres in the Peninsula. The Centre is custom-built and situated in a very safe and secure environment in upper Claremont. The buildings are set among beautiful gardens and shady trees. It has been home from home for children from all over the Peninsula for many decades as well as for children of ambassadors from various overseas countries. We take in children from all walks of life and a wide variety of cultures!
The Lady Buxton Centre is affiliated to Cape Town Child Welfare Society. In order to supplement our income and to keep fees affordable we have functions which all parents are required to support, i.e. Surf Walk (February); Family Fun Day(November) and other fun activities (see current Year Planner).
The Buxton Pre-Primary unit is registered with the Department of Education and follows the curriculum which prepares and gets children school ready for Grade 1. There are 3 groups ranging from ages 4 to 6.
On entering the Buxton Centre parents receive a complete copy of our Philosophy and our Policies governing the Centre.
Speech and Drama, as well as Xhosa lessons form part of our current curriculum.
Lady Buxton Centre recognises the importance of the role extra-mural activities play in the holistic development of the child. The Centre offers a variety of extra-murals and in this way accomodates the child that has boundless energy to the child that is happy to express his/her energy in an artistic way.
